Derby champion Nyquist favored to win Preakness

WASHINGTON – Kentucky Derby champion Nyquist is made a 3-to-5 favorite Wednesday for that 141st Preakness, using the unbeaten bay colt beginning third in the rail in Saturday’s race.

Kentucky Derby champion Nyquist is bathed following a work out for that 141st running from the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Track on on May 18, 2016 in Baltimore, Maryland

“It’s perfect,” stated Nyquist trainer Doug O’Neill of his horse’s start gate within the 11-horse field at Pimlico.

Nyquist, 8-, is attempting to get the 13th horse to brush US flat racing’s Triple Crown if you take the Derby, Preakness and then month’s Belmont Stakes.

American Pharoah won the Triple Crown this past year to finish a 37-year drought.

The Fir 3/16ths-of-a-mile Preakness may be the shortest event from the three.

Derby runner-up Exaggerator, who lost by 1 1/4 lengths at Churchill Downs, was second within the eyes of oddsmakers at 3-1 and came the 5th position with Stradivari, made the 3rd choice at 8-1, beginning around the outdoors.

Japanese-bred Lani, ninth within the Derby, will begin sixth.

The area includes Cherry Wine, Uncle Lino, Awesome Speed, Collected, Laoban, Fellowship and Abiding Star.

Nyquist jogged two miles Wednesday at Pimlico.

“He looked great,” O’Neill stated. “We are just searching for him to carry on what he is doing here since he’s experienced Baltimore — keep his appetite up, stay injuries-free and remain loose.”

Nyquist owner J. Paul Reddam, O’Neill and jockey Mario Gutierrez also won the Derby this year with I’ll Have Another, which won the Derby and Preakness but scratched having a tendon injuries the morning prior to the Belmont Stakes.

Nyquist is placed to gallop Thursday morning and jog Friday at Pimlico.

Exaggerator trainer Keith Desormeaux is positive about his horse’s chances.

“Exaggerator has a lot more racing experience, therefore fitness and also the attribute of recovering rapidly,” Desormeaux stated. “And So I think I’ve the fitter horse and, to be honest, the fresher horse entering Saturday.”

Nyquist, a boy of Uncle Mo and named after Detroit Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist, needs to get the 2nd undefeated Triple Crown champion, joining San antonio Slew in 1977.

  1. He must be an Ouya super fanboy or an astroturfer. As someone with an Ouya for over a month I can confidently say it&1quo;s at best half baked. The experience is inco1istent. The UI is frustrating especially in the store. The content from the store is super slow to load most of the time. There is very little compelling content. The touchpad is almost unusable and beyond that the only fun games I was able to find after trying a dozen or so were emulated Super Nintendo games. I can&1quo;t see what people like about it beyond the initial crazy hype that I&1quo;ll admit did me in as well. I see mine squarely relegated to Plex, emulator and AirPlay duty for the foreseeable future. Did I mention there is no ove1can settings so the menus get cut off on my TV. Oh and you can&1quo;t manually choose 720p so my old TV has compression artifacts. Sorry for the rant. Just so disappointed in the product.

  2. No matter what games come out for the XB1, I will not be purchasing it. I am sure I am not the only pe1on like this either. I appreciate that they are supporting the 360 by remaking for it.
